Hemp has been around for a really really long time, for at least 12,000 years. People in the past have used them for everything, from food to construction and all other things in between.
Hemp is the distant cousin  of marijuana(the mind-altering psychoactive drug, known as pot, weed, grass, etc.) and belongs to the Cannabis Sativa family.  Although related to the marijuana family it has the anti-marijuana  properties.

Hemp being an agricultural crop is cultivated for the fibre - the fibre that is used for fabrics, ropes, furniture and shoes.   During the WW II , hemp fabric was used extensively to make uniforms  and ropes.

The 'Declaration of Independence' ( signed on July 4,1776) was written on hemp paper.

Hemp oils and extracts are used for medicines, paints, varnishes and cosmetics.

Hemp seed is the latest health food fad. The seeds are said to be gluten-free and loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fibre. Hemp seeds also have a higher percentage of protein than beef.  It is a complete protein! It is better than flax seeds.

If you are crazy about  apparel made of hemp, like me, then, you will agree  that hemp clothing are soft and they keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They breathe well.
I'm in awe of this misunderstood plant for all the great  benefits it bestows on man.

Adventurers to beauty queens  have benefited from them.

Every part of this plant can be used to make something or the other.

Which other misunderstood plant serves us like the Hemp plant?
