Ice Sculptures in Harbin

During the bitter winter in Harbin, which is located in Northeast China, the people have braved the cold and made a tradition since 1985 to showcase their  ice sculpting and ice carving talents. People from many countries flock to see these amazing sculptures even when the temperatures are as low as minus 16 degrees Celsius.
The life-sized sculptures are built using huge blocks of ice which comes from the local river. The festivities begin in the beginning of January and lasts for a month. Some of the best  ice sculptures and ice art are in display at various locations like the  Harbin Ice and Snow World, the Sun Island Scenic Area, and The Ice Lantern Garden.
While the ice sculptures themselves are amazingly fantastic the sculptures transform in the evenings to beautifully illuminated colorful works of art.  I'm sure people looking at the pictures of these sculptures are in awe just  as the lucky ones who've  experienced the beauty first hand.
